The Project:

Phase 1 – First & Second Floors

Following safe confirmation of asbestos clearance, the works expeditiously included: site set-up with temporary site cabins, welfare facilities, heras fencing, electrics, running water, temporary fire alarm system. Temporary scaffolding, temporary stairs and rubbish chutes erected to gain external access to these floors. Demolition and stripout works quickly followed with demolishing walls, inserting structural beams. Historic gas and electric heating with large pipework network removed in lieu of modern air-source heat pump system for a school environment. Air-conditioning systems were designed as ceiling cassettes and wall mount. Some cassettes were 4-way, others 1-way. New suspended ceilings and MF, full redecoration. Full height frameless glass partitions and sliding glass doors drawing natural daylight through to otherwise dark spaces. New energy efficient LED lighting combined with ascetically pleasing ceiling mounted feature coloured pendant lighting and emergency lights. Electrics, power and 3 compartment dado trunking, panel heaters to circulation areas. Individual SDL learning spaces were created and built, similar to individual office glass partitions. ‘Quiet Rooms’ created where students can work and study individually or assisted with staff. Feature OSB panels installed with FR varnish to compliment an ‘industrial building-like’ atmosphere.
